Cellpro Cell Culture Plate come in various sizes, including 4-well, 6-well, 12-well, 24-well, 48-well or 96-wells. They are constructed of 100% virgin polystyrene and feature a consistent design. The main differences are in terms of the size of the cell growth area and the volume of the wells. They have round edges for better handling and a low profile, low-evaporation lid design to assure uniform growth. Choose either tissue culture-treated or non-treated surfaces. Small feet on the bottom corners of each plate eliminate scraping of the microscope lens.
Polystyrene plastic must be subjected to a surface treatment to render the plastic suitable for cell attachment improving biocompatibility and seeding efficiency. TC treatment involves only the bottom of the well, leaving the walls hydrophobic. Untreated polystyrene surfaces are not suitable for cell attachment due to the inherent surface chemistry of the polystyrene. The tissue culture treatment (TC treated) process involves exposing a polystyrene microplate to a plasma gas in order to modify the hydrophobic plastic surface to make it more hydrophilic. The resulting surface carries a net negative charge due to the presence of oxygen-containing functional groups such as hydroxyl and carboxyl. In general, this will lead to increased cell attachment.
