Amikacin

Amikacin is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of mRNA and disruption of bacterial growth. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria and some Gram-positive organisms.

In laboratory and microbiological research, Amikacin is commonly used for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, preparation of selective culture media, and studies on bacterial growth and resistance mechanisms. It is also used in molecular biology for selection in bacterial systems carrying amikacin resistance markers.
