Amphotericin B

Amphotericin B is a polyene antifungal agent known for its efficacy against a broad spectrum of fungi, including yeast and molds. It functions by binding to the fungal cell membrane, forming pores that disrupt membrane integrity. This disruption leads to the leakage of cellular contents, ultimately causing fungal cell death.  

Amphotericin B is commonly used to prevent and treat fungal contamination in cell cultures and microbiological experiments. It is added to growth media to maintain aseptic conditions and protect cell lines from fungal overgrowth.
