It is widely expressed in normal adult tissues, tumor tissues and cell lines. It may be a candidate biomarker for malignant transformation. It plays a role in regulation of cell migration and invasion and may act as a therapeutic target for gastric cancer. It may act as an immune cytokine and may serve as a member of the γ(c) cytokine family.
