PHYH (phytanoyl-CoA 2-hydroxylase) gene encodes a proprotein with an N-terminal PTS2 that is essential for its transport into peroxisomes via Pex7. This proprotein undergoes cleavage in the peroxisome to form the mature protein. It belongs to the Fe(II) and 2OG (2-oxoglutarate) oxygenase superfamily.
