In breast cancer cells, it reduces the expression of E-cadherin, an epithelial marker, and elevates the expression of mesenchymal markers fibronectin and N-cadherin. It is also up-regulated in gastric cancer (GC), and is thought to promote development and progression of GC. This gene plays an important role in cell cycle progression.
