The gene SAMD9 (sterile α motif domain-containing protein 9) is mapped to human chromosome 7q21.3. It is ubiquitously expressed. The protein localizes in the cytoplasm. Mutations in SAMD9 are linked with normophosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis, a disorder with progressive deposition of calcified masses in cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues.
