The semaphorins contain a 500 amino acid conserved domain that forms a seven-bladed β-propeller structure. They are involved in cell-migration, angiogenesis, and immune response and are divided into seven classes. SEMA4B is involved in the activation of PI3K signaling pathway leading to an increase in MMP9 (matrix metalloproteinase 9). Increase in MMP9 leads to an increase in metastasis of NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer).
