Septin 6 (Sept6) is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase and a member of a family of mammalian septins having varied functions. It contains a set of 13 genes which encode GTP-binding proteins. C-terminal regions of Sept6 and Sept7 each contain coiled-coil regions that extend for about 100 amino acid residues. There are five positive interactions between the coiled-coil of Sept6 and the GTP-binding domains of both Sept6 and Sept7. The C-terminal region of Sept6, encompassing residues 283–429 interacts with Sept7 between the residues 277 to 418.
