The gene VBP1 (von Hippel-Lindau binding protein 1) is mapped to human chromsome Xq28. The protein localizes in the nucleus and cytoplasm. It is associated with the assembly of α- and γ-tubulins. It is shown to connect HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)-1 integrase and VHL, leading to integrase degradation. VBP1 is also a component of the prefoldin chaperone.
