It is composed of two Cys₂-His₂-type, zinc-finger motifs and five homeodomains (HDs). It can form homodimer as well as heterodimer by binding to the ZHX1. It also interacts with the activation domain of subunit A of nuclear factor-Y (NF-YA). In the nucleus, ZHX2 functions as a transcriptional repressor to inhibit the promoter activity. ZHX2 over expressions have been found in various liver tissues such as cholangitis, cirrhosis, adjacent non-tumorous tissues, primary HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma) tissues, and matched metastatic lesions.
