Brilliant Green Agar with Novobiocin is a selective medium used for the isolation and presumptive identification of Salmonella spp., particularly in food, dairy, and clinical samples. The addition of novobiocin (15 mcg/mL) enhances the selectivity of the medium by suppressing the growth of competing Gram-positive and many Gram-negative bacteria, making it especially useful for isolating Salmonella in the presence of complex background flora.
Brilliant green dye and bile salts further inhibit non-target organisms such as Proteus and Escherichia coli, while Salmonella colonies typically appear red to pink-white against a green background.
Each plate is poured with 20mL of agar, providing consistent depth and surface area for streaking and colony development. Supplied in packs of 10, these plates are ideal for use in regulatory testing, food safety labs, and microbiology research facilities.
- Selective for Salmonella species
- Contains brilliant green, bile salts, and novobiocin (15 mcg/mL)
- Suppresses competing Gram-positive and lactose-fermenting organisms
- 20mL agar fill ensures optimal recovery and incubation performance
- Ideal for food, clinical, and environmental microbiology
- Supplied in a 10-pack for routine laboratory workflows
This medium is commonly used in Salmonella screening workflows that comply with FDA, USDA, and ISO standards.
