CellPro™ 96-Well Cell Culture Plate have round edges for better handling. Low profile and low-evaporation lid design assures uniform growth. Tissue treated and non-treated are both available. Non-treated growth surface is more hydrophobic than tissue culture surface and are similar to the surface of a bacteriological petri dish. Small feet on the bottom corners of each plate eliminate scraping of the microscope lens..

Polystyrene plastic must be subjected to a surface treatment to render the plastic suitable for cell attachment improving biocompatibility and seeding efficiency. TC treatment involves only the bottom of the well, leaving the walls hydrophobic.  Untreated polystyrene surfaces are not suitable for cell attachment due to the inherent surface chemistry of the polystyrene. The tissue culture treatment (TC treated) process involves exposing a polystyrene microplate to a plasma gas in order to modify the hydrophobic plastic surface to make it more hydrophilic. The resulting surface carries a net negative charge due to the presence of oxygen-containing functional groups such as hydroxyl and carboxyl. In general, this will lead to increased cell attachment.
