This product provides 20mL of Cetrimide Agar in a pre-poured, sterile petri dish. This is a highly selective medium used specifically for the isolation and definitive identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The "Pseudomonas" Selector: This medium is engineered to be a strict gatekeeper, allowing only Pseudomonas to pass while killing off almost everything else.

1. Cetrimide (Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide): This is a quaternary ammonium compound (detergent). It acts as a toxic agent that destroys the cell membranes of most bacteria. However, P. aeruginosa is naturally resistant to it, allowing it to survive and grow.

2. Pigment Enhancement: The nutrient base (containing Magnesium Chloride and Potassium Sulfate) is optimized to stimulate the production of two characteristic pigments:

   • Pyocyanin: A blue-green pigment.

   • Pyoverdin (Fluorescein): A yellow-green fluorescent pigment.

   • The Result: Colonies of P. aeruginosa typically appear with a distinctive blue-green color and will often fluoresce under UV light, making identification rapid and visual.
