Cu is present in +1 (cuprous) valence state in CuCl. CuCl is a semiconductor having a wide band gap. It is a promising candidate for use in silicon-based optoelectronics since its lattice resembles with silicon. It participates in various reactions with Grignard reagents. Copper(I) chloride (CuCl) has been used in the synthesis of copper nanoring structures. It has also been used as a precursor for the fabrication of ordered array of TiO₂ nanoparticles on the conductive nitrogen-doped graphene (NG).
