It is a major degrader of plant cell walls and has been used as a model organism for the study of secreted, thermostable cellulases. 3 Thermostable enzymes from T.fusca have been reported to replace thermochemical pre- treatments of cellulosic biomass in the process of decomposition to biofuels.4T. fusca, being a soil bacterium, is not likely to be found in the human microbiome.
