Sodium 2-bromoethanesulfonate acts as methanogenesis inhibitor during anaerobic digestion. It reacts with lithium sulfinated polysulfones(PSU) to yield sulfoethylated PSU. Sodium 2-bromoethanesulfonate(BES) was used to investigate the effect of BES on inhibition of bacterial growth.
